Method:
- Add coffee to the pot. For each 125ml/4 oz. cup add 1 rounded tablespoon or 1 scoop (about 7.5 g) of coarsely ground coffee. Feel free to adjust the amount of coffee according to your personal taste.
- Boil the water in a kettle and let it cool for about 30 seconds. Pour it into the cafetiere, making sure you saturate all of the coffee evenly.
- Stir and cover the pot with the press top, without it toucing the coffee.
- Start the timer: let the coffee brew for 3.5 to 4 minutes (for big cafetieres or 2 to 3 minutes for smaller cafetieres).
- Press the pot by pushing the press top slowly into the pot to separate the coffee from the grounds.
- Pour the coffee as soon as you've pressed the pot. If you intend to drink some coffee later, pour it into a thermos or another cup. Do not leave it in the cafetiere, because it continues to extract and will end up tasting bitter.
Important:
- use fresh, good quality coffee
- make sure coffee is ground correctly: it should be coarse
- use the right amount of coffee
- time the process
