It is essential to grind coffee correctly for proper extraction, as each coffee brewing method requires a different grind setting:
- cafetiere and percolator: coarse grind, with large particles
- drip/filter coffee: medium grind
- moka pot: finer than for filter, but coarser than for espresso
- espresso: fine grind, with small sized particles
- Turkish coffee: extremely fine grind
Moreover, using freshly ground beans is one of the most important factors for making a quality cup of coffee, which is full of aroma.
Coffee grinders
There are two main types of grinders available:
- blade coffee grinders: chop the beans, often grind unevenly, are cheaper.
- burr coffee grinders: grind the beans between two burrs, grind evenly, usually have different grind settings, are more expensive.
